Sailing Barge Hope

HOPE

Built about 1991, this is a 1/4 scale replica sailing barge built by the late David Savage in Shoreham.
21ft 6in long she had a wheelhouse fitted during a refit in 1995/6 and was widened to 7ft 6ins in 2001.
Construction is of marine plywood rather than a traditional barge construction.
The wheel house was removed in 2006, relacing the wheel steering with a tiller, and mounting the mizzen on the rudder post. This year she has had hatch covers fitted to the main hold, similar to those on full size barges.
Powered by a 3.5 horse power single cylinder air cooled Lister Petter engine.
Based at Maldon, Essex.
