SAILING FROM MALDON

Maldon is a tidal town based at the top of the Blackwater River, and is home to many of the remaining barge fleet. Its scenic Hythe Quay is a popular attraction to many visitors to the town, and it provides a very picturesque setting for the start of any barge charter.

At low water, the Quay dries out to reveal mudflats, so at Maldon we are tide dependent, able to sail for two hours or a whole day. Our popular two hour cruises take you down river past the bird sanctuary of Northey Island to the privately owned Osea Island before heading back to the Quay.

On a day sail you head towards Bradwell, sailing as far as Mersea Island or the River Colne before returning up river. Because of the tides a day sail will last approximately 11 hours.
