In 1992, the Hydrogen was purchased by Stephanie and Paul, and part of the finance was raised through debentures (so-called "barge bonds") from individuals with an interest in helping preserve Thames barges. Not only do debenture holders make a direct contribution to the survival of the barge they invest in, but we hope they feel part of a social group. This type of finanace has enabled us to embark on an ambitious rebuilding programme guaranteed to keep the Hydrogen sailing in better condition into the new century.

The start of the new Millenium find the Topsail fleeet as busy as any on the East Coast, and to fulfil the demand that we have created, we are looking ahead to a further expansion of the fleet. Very rarely, opportunities arise to but or save a barge - we have recently bought the Trojan, lying derelict in a mud berth on the East Coast, with the view to a long term restoration - and when these oportunities arise, we would like to have a feel for any people who may be interested in finding out more.

For a modest investment, debentures give a guaranteed annual return above similar savings accounts with the additional security of being overseen by elected Trustees.

Although we are not offering you a specific vessel at present, when the opportunity arises to move forward, we would like to have a feel for any people who may be interested in finding out more.
