Sailing Barge Kathleen |
| Converted
to auxiliary in late 1945 at Whitstable. She worked dry cargoes all her
working life, being converted to a motor barge in 1954 and later being
used as a timber lighter at Heybridge Basin. She was rerigged in 1965 by Richard Walsh as a barge yacht. She was used as a housebarge in the Netherlands in the 1970's and was subsequently hulked there. The story of this vessel is described in detail by Richard Walsh in his book "Kathleen - the biography of a sailing barge", Terence Dalton 1986. The hull of this model is built from a solid wood block as a kit from Authentic Models, Holland. They are difficult to find now. |
