Sailing Barge Kathleen

Built 1901 by Glovers at Gravesend.
53 tons.
Sold to Whitstable Shipping Company in 1909, latterly Daniel Bros.

Converted to auxiliary in late 1945 at Whitstable. She worked dry cargoes all her working life, being converted to a motor barge in 1954 and later being used as a timber lighter at Heybridge Basin.

She was rerigged in 1965 by Richard Walsh as a barge yacht. She was used as a housebarge in the Netherlands in the 1970's and was subsequently hulked there.

The story of this vessel is described in detail by Richard Walsh in his book "Kathleen - the biography of a sailing barge", Terence Dalton 1986.

The hull of this model is built from a solid wood block as a kit from Authentic Models, Holland. They are difficult to find now.
