Wyvenhoe was built of steel in 1989 by Forrest & Sons at Wivenhoe,
Essex. She was converted to a motor barge in 1923, and rebuilt by Pollocks of Faversham in 1948. She was restored to a full sailing barge from 1983, and features in Richard Walsh's book "Kathleen - the biography of a sailing barge" as the vessel he re-rigged after the Kathleen, using some of her fittings. |
|
Details of the Wyvenhoe as a motor barge are also mentioned in the book "Punching the Tide - the Life of a Motor Bargeman on the Thames, Medway and East Coast" by Captain Duncan Francis. This model is built from the HFM kit, and is made from vacuum formed plastic hull. It is made with radio control to allow it to sail. |
The
model started with a bowsprit rig and on display in a model shop. It
was purchased when the shop closed down, and has been converted to look
like the Wyvenhoe with a staysail rig and brightly coloured staysail.
The model has survived a sinking in the marine lake at Maldon in 5 feet of water. |
